Geely is preparing to unveil a new AI-powered EV charging system capable of delivering peak power of up to 2.2 MW, with the automaker teasing charging times of around four minutes. ChinaEVHome first reported the details.
The technology is expected to debut on the updated Geely Galaxy E5 and combines an AI-based battery management system with an 800V electrical architecture and 6C ultra-fast charging. Geely says the system can tailor charging strategies to individual battery conditions while limiting degradation.
The updated Galaxy E5 will also move from its current 400V front-wheel-drive setup to an 800V rear-wheel-drive platform. It is expected to use Geely’s new Aegis Short Blade battery, with 61.52 kWh and 70.01 kWh options offering claimed CLTC ranges of 550 km and 635 km.
The new model will also get a more powerful electric motor, upgraded driver-assistance hardware with LiDAR and additional design changes. The current 400V Galaxy E5 will reportedly remain on sale alongside the updated version.
Geely’s charging push comes as Chinese automakers increasingly compete to cut EV charging times, putting pressure on the industry to make electric vehicles more convenient for drivers.
