Apple appears to have already laid the groundwork for bringing its AI-powered Siri to the HomePod, but the feature remains disabled. Code discovered in audioOS 27 reportedly references “Linwood,” believed to be the system powering the new Siri experience on Apple’s smart speaker.
The discovery is particularly interesting because the HomePod is apparently recognized by the software as a Siri AI-capable device. However, activation is currently blocked, suggesting Apple may simply be holding back the feature until it is ready for release.
There are also signs that Apple is preparing a visual and audio makeover for Siri on HomePod. The new experience reportedly includes updated status lights and different sound effects designed around the newer Siri AI interface.
The bigger question is whether existing HomePods will eventually receive the upgrade. Reports point to a new HomePod mini and Apple’s rumored smart display as possible future hardware, raising the possibility that Apple could reserve some Siri AI capabilities for newer devices.
For now, Apple has not confirmed when Siri AI will arrive on HomePod, leaving users with the curious situation of AI support seemingly sitting inside the software but remaining switched off.
