Bungie is making a major shift in its plans for the Destiny franchise, saying the series remains central to the studio’s future after months of uncertainty surrounding Destiny 2.
The studio plans to bring back previously vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations and raids, making the archived content available to all players again. Bungie said restoring the content will take time because the game’s lighting, combat and underlying systems have changed significantly since those experiences were removed.
The move comes after Bungie ended active development on Destiny 2 earlier this year and Sony laid off at least 292 employees at the studio. Bungie acknowledged that the decisions had damaged player trust and said its new leadership wants to rebuild that relationship through its games and communication.
Bungie is also reworking Marathon, admitting that the game did not reach as many players as expected. The studio plans to expand its gameplay options while continuing to improve its combat, world and competitive elements.
The company has not revealed a detailed roadmap for a potential new Destiny game, but its latest update makes clear that the franchise remains a major part of Bungie’s long-term plans.
