Google, Nvidia and Emerald AI have joined forces to launch the AI Energy Management Alliance, a coalition aimed at making AI data centers more flexible participants in electricity grids.
The alliance will focus on demand flexibility, allowing data centers to temporarily reduce or shift computing workloads when electricity grids come under pressure. The approach could help utilities manage the rapidly rising power demand created by large AI workloads while making it easier to connect new data centers to existing infrastructure.
The group includes major players across the AI and energy industries, including Anthropic, National Grid, AES, Constellation and NRG Energy. The move highlights how access to electricity is increasingly becoming a critical challenge for the next phase of AI expansion.
