Humanoid Robots Hit the Runway as Physical AI Moves Into Daily Life

Earlier this month, IFA Berlin 2026 showcased a broad range of developments in robotics, with humanoid robots performing on the runway, autonomous machines competing in football and experts discussing how Physical AI could eventually assist with physically demanding tasks.

The event featured humanoid robots demonstrating dancing, Tai Chi, backflips and splits during the “Robots on the Runway” live show at the IFA Creator Stage. The robots also answered questions, interacted with audiences and demonstrated applications involving pets and emergency response.

The showcase featured more humanoid robot brands than any previous IFA Berlin event, with participants including PrimeBot Robots, EngineAI, Cozio Robotics, Dobot Robot, DEEP Robotics, Agibot, Unitree, ZBy, Ollobot, Astrall Dynamics and AIMOGA.

IFA Management CEO Leif Lindner described robotics, alongside artificial intelligence, as one of the event’s key future technology themes. He said the demonstrations showed how rapidly robotic systems were advancing and moving closer to everyday applications.

Physical AI was another major focus, with NEURA Robotics founder and CEO David Reger discussing how robotics could help address labor shortages and demographic changes. He said Physical AI represented a further evolution of artificial intelligence by allowing machines to perceive their surroundings, respond to changes and perform tasks autonomously.

The potential role of robots in homes was also discussed during a Smart Living Forum panel focused on kitchens and household tasks. Experts explored how humanoid robots could eventually learn to understand a family’s environment, habits and food preferences rather than simply performing individual tasks.

PrimeBot Robotics CMO Jiyuan Zou demonstrated a small humanoid robot during the discussion and argued that future household robots could need to understand the context of the home, including the routines and preferences of the people living there.

Meanwhile, RoboCup at IFA demonstrated advances in autonomous robotics, with teams of researchers and students competing using self-developed machines. Robot football showcased how autonomous systems could analyze games, make decisions independently and coordinate with teammates.

Together, the demonstrations highlighted the rapid development of humanoid robotics and Physical AI, as manufacturers and researchers continued moving the technology from controlled demonstrations toward practical applications in workplaces and homes.
